A friendly deception

Galerie Gilla Loercher is very pleased to present „A friendly deception“, a solo show by Swiss artist Claudia Zweifel.
No, appearances are not deceiving. Colours glow from thickly applied, broad brushstrokes or shimmer from gossamer-thin glazes like watercolours. Lines and cross¬hatching made with ink and marker, with slightly fuzzy edges, are clearly delineated. Oily substances deepen the tone of a colour and create a visible aura that penetrates the pictorial ground. Oversized chains nuzzle against the wall, consistently following painterly gestures and suggesting in a well-conceived game the forms of a composition that annuls all the forces of gravity and questions movement and congealment in a dialogue with colour and form, line and space. Everything is visible, yet conceals a secret.
Be it a painting, drawing, or object – whether digital or analogue – everything Claudia Zweifel displays, paints, draws, or sculpts in her exhibition «A friendly deception» is reality and illusion at the same time. Her works encompass visual possibilities and perceptive stimuli in the surface and in space and probe colour as the comprehensive bearer of expression, as a constitutive as well as virtual element, whose effect ranges from sublime colour-space to individually placed structures to constructive flow and beyond all of these.
